Cancelling or changing an appointment

Don’t need it? Cancel it!

We know people forget things, cancelling GP appointments being one of them. Remember to cancel your appointment if you don’t need it, please give us as much notice as possible so that your appointment can be offered to someone else.

If you are cancelling please telephone us as soon as possible, and at least 30 minutes before your appointment time. This will enable us to offer your appointment to someone else.

To cancel your appointment:

  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • using the GP online system – Patient Access
  • phone us on 0208 292 401 and use the automatic check and cancel service
  • reply CANCEL to your appointment reminder text message

Please remember that there may be a shortage of appointments and when you fail to attend you have prevented someone else from being seen in your place. On average about 230 appointments are missed each month

Cancellations notified less than 30 minutes before the appointment time will be recorded as failure to attend (DNA). Repeated failure to attend booked appointments is a significant waste of NHS resources.

  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

House Bound patients can request for home visits. Please telephone reception as soon as possible in the morning before 10am explaining your illness and a doctor will visit you.

Please attend the surgery if you can in order that we can continue to provide medical care to as many patients as possible.

Please be aware you do not have an automatic right to a home visit and you will be visited on medical grounds.

Chaperones

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. The chaperone may be a family member or friend. On occasions you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present, i.e. a trained member of staff.

Wherever possible we would ask you to make this request at the time of booking so that arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed in any way. Where this is not possible we will endeavour to provide a formal chaperone at the time of request. However, occasionally it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment. Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our chaperone policy.
